Surface Martienne photographie par la sonde MRO (Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter) - Hirise. Dust Devil Tracks. Dust Devils raise dust from the surface, leaving distinctive surface markings where the dust cover is thin and the underlying materials are dark. Sometimes the dust devil tracks are so abundant that they almost saturate the surface. In 2007 Mars had extensive dust storms, and the dust eventually settled out onto the surface. In places where the local dust storms were intense, the dust fallout was sufficient to uniformly repaint the surface. This provided a clean slate for the first post-storm dust devils to leave their marks, as shown here.
